Rhetorical Reflection # 1

Think about your Thinking

My approach to writing and even reading articles can be summarized in two words: Metacognitive Awareness.

Rather than write what comes to mind. I now take a systematic approach to writing. I jot down my thoughts, and then work on expanding, and finding creative ways to define my thoughts.  In the past, my writings were short sweet and to the point.  It has taught me to “think about thinking” which I know can be thought of as click bait.  The way I view it: challenge yourself and your thoughts.  It is way of pulling the layers back and exploring deeper thoughts and writing in a much more defined way and to keep your target audience interested.

I have found that creating a journal or a blog that captures daily events as shown on our family motorsports racing page https://www.facebook.com/TeamChloeRacing/. I have enhanced our posting what we have done, I am now describing the events of the day in better details.

One thing I have learned when reviewing other classmates papers it’s okay to challenge the ideas and thinking of others in a respectful way. I wish there was a session in class talk to each other about the information we have learned. Talking with fellow classmates or collaborative online by reading each other’s blogs on our expressions sites.  I found it helpful when we rotated our papers for our peers to critique. I was able to use their feedback to find ways to improve my blog.

As stated in my High School Crowd blog:

Working through the process is a lot like building a house. Slowly and methodically, you start with a good base, get your thoughts down on paper. Most would define this as an outline, call it what you want.  After you have your thoughts written, work on establishing your plot, then expanded upon each of your ideas.  Before you know it, your paper writings will already be at college levels.

While reading other papers, and article, I take the time to read the entire article then I find myself re-reading and writing notes on the margins to reference.

I find myself looking up words; utilizing a thesaurus finding ways to challenge myself to find creative ways to build upon what I call my basic vocabulary.  I believe that by looking at my writings in this way, it will generate a larger target audience, draw interest in perhaps something you originally had no interest in before reading the first few sentences of my post.

Overall this way of thinking about thinking has actual influenced me on more than just writing, I find myself analyzing how I approach situations at work, my problem solving, and reading.  It has shown me how to stop, assess the situation, and work on a “better” solution and more creative ways to address the situation at hand.
